Emergency Numbers and Advice
999If you are from the United States you would normally dial 911 for an emergency, however in Hong Kong you can contact the local police, ambulance service, fire department and other emergency services by calling 999.
Lost passport
If your passport has been misplaced, or has been stolen, go to the nearest Hong Kong Police station to report the incident, which is known as a 'lost report'. You may call the Police Hotline +852 2527 7177 to find a nearby station with a "Report Room". After this immediately contact your Home Country's consulate to have your passport replaced. The US Consoluate in Hong Kong requires that you make an online appointment and visit in person to report your Passport stolen.
Lost or stolen wallet
Similar to loosing your passport, if your wallet or valuables are lost or stolen, notify your hotel (if you are staying in one) and go to the nearest Hong Kong Police station to report the incident, which is known as a 'lost report'. You may call the Police Hotline +852 2527 7177 to find a nearby station with a "Report Room".
Additionally if you have not already done so, it's a good idea to keep a separate record of your credit card numbers and report the loss to your card issuers immediately so that they can suspend the account. Most issuers have toll-free International numbers and 24-hour services to deal with such emergencies.
